Before GarageBand, iTunes and Soundcloud: there was Soundscape. Founded by recording industry pioneer, Michael Kolar, Soundscape Studios has been guiding local and national artists toward sonic excellence since 1996. What began as a small project studio in his childhood home is now a dedicated facility on Chicago Avenue and has since recorded albums for artists and groups including Zane Malik, FKA Twigs, M.I.A., Chance The Rapper, George Clinton, Ludacris, Action Bronson, Raekwon, 2 Chainz, Naked Raygun, Crucial Conflict, No ID, Wyclef Jean, Talib Kweli, Vic Mensa, Jamila Woods, Chingy and others. From hip hop to punk rock, funk to metal, gospel to pop—Soundscape is equipped with complementing studios (A and B) for intimate and private sessions to record, mix and master all genres of music, analog tape sessions and voice over. Our fully custom spaces feature the most modern digital technology available coupled with world class analog gear—all led by an award-winning staff of engineers. We offer hourly, half and full day rates, as well as project/bulk discounts and our only requirement is a desire to make incredible music. Let’s get started on your next project today.

Studio A is our main studio. The studio features a large live room with 13 foot angled ceilings and non-parallel walls, a dedicated Iso Room, a large control room with slotted diffusers and suspended bass trapping in the rear of the room.  Studio A was also designed by world famous acoustician, Carl Tatz, featuring his Phantom Focus Speaker System. All rooms are floated 2 feet off street level for excellent bass response and isolation from outside noise sources. There are also hardwood floors throughout the studio.  All electrical is on a 20 amp Equi-Tech dedicated power transformer & is referenced to deep earth ground (10-foot copper ground rods our parking lot) for tight bass response and super low noise floor. All live room cabling is Gepco with 24 mic lines between the live room and control room.   All of the control room cabling is Swiss made Gotham Audio cable. A rarity in any studio, the control room has windows to let in ample natural light (fully soundproofed).

Studio B is a built-from-the-ground-up solution to meet today’s independent artist’s needs. Studio B features a very large vocal booth with hardwood floors, a large glass block window, and ample bass trapping for tight and articulate sound.  Several artists can record simultaneously in this vocal booth. The control room was designed and built from the ground up for a focused sound over the entire audio spectrum. Suspended full audio band traps are implemented in a “cloud” configuration suspended over the mixing console for excellent mix translation.  A custom-built rear wall bass trap tightens the low end, so there are never any “muddy” sounding mixes. A Equi-Tech “Son Of Q” keep Studio B’s power clean and separate from the rest of the facility. Swiss Made Gotham Audio cable ties in 3 mic lines, 4 headphone feeds & MIDI from the vocal booth to the control room.
